Youth World Championship volleyball match to follow today: USA vs. Brazil

The U.S. Boys’ Youth National Team is one win away from a top-10 finish at the World Championship.

After finishing its second-round pool in second place, No. 9 United States will play No. 6 Brazil in the semifinals for ninth place at 6 p.m. (5 p.m. EST) Saturday in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The winner of this match will play the winner of the other semifinals match between No. 4 Iran and No. 10 Egypt. The two ninth-place semifinals match losers will play each for 11th place.

What to know: The United States and Brazil will play each other for a spot in the ninth place championship match at the World Championship. Despite having a losing record in the second round, the United States finished its pool in a three-way tie for second place and won the tiebreaker to receive the final berth into the semifinals. The United States is 1-4 in its last five matches at the international tournament, with its lone victory coming against No. 2 Russia on Thursday. Brazil went undefeated in second-round pool-play to reach the ninth-place semifinals and has lost one game in its last three matches. Both the United States and Brazil can finish the 16-team international tournament no worse than 12th place. The United States has not finished better than 10th place in the last 10 years of World Championship play.
